First Electrode implanted in Human – 2015

The first AirRay® electrode was successfully implanted in a human patient as part of an epilepsy study, marking a significant clinical milestone for our electrode technology.

FDA IDE Approval – 2024

The FDA has approved an Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) allowing an early feasibility study to evaluate CorTec’s fully implantable, closed‑loop Brain Interchange system for stroke rehabilitation using cortical stimulation.

2025 FDA IDE Approval – Stroke Rehabilitation

Investigational Device Exemption granted for the closed-loop Brain Interchange implant system. A major regulatory milestone.

2025 First-in-Human Implantation – Seattle

Matt Kidd, 53, becomes first patient. Closed-loop BCI implanted at Harborview Medical Center under NIH-funded study led by Dr. Jeffrey Ojemann (UW) and Dr. Steven Cramer (UCLA).

Remarkable Early Rehabilitation Outcomes – 2025

Following implantation, the first study participant showed significantly accelerated motor recovery within the first weeks of cortical stimulation therapy, demonstrating the strong therapeutic potential of the Brain Interchange system.

Second Implantation in Stroke Study – 2026

A second participant has now been implanted as part of the ongoing stroke rehabilitation study, marking another key step toward evaluating the safety and therapeutic impact of closed‑loop cortical stimulation.
